Don't waste your time; they don't deserve it.

Ridiculously low pay for outrageously unreasonable expectations. They actually expect you to perform a great deal of work for free. Then they nitpick to death with their inconsistent rules, with no respect for the amount of time and effort put into listening, typing, researching etc. You can do a near-perfect project and they won't care about anything but the minor typo or mistake that occurs in one second, instead of the majority of the top-notch work you've completed. And don't bother trying to dispute, because the graders and their dispute supervisors don't have a clue about how to treat coworkers or provide customer service; they're only interested in defending their questionable decisions and being as unhelpful as possible. The way the work is set up does not benefit the customer either, as most don't realize their file may be problematic until a freelancer goes out of their way to review and report the problem without getting paid for that research and notification. I've worked for many work-at-home freelance positions in the past, from big companies such as Google to much smaller online entities. All of them considered my work stellar, complimented me on it regularly, and were open-minded to suggestions, none of which applies to Rev, which is by far the cheapest, rudest, most incompetent, and disrespectful staff I have ever had the displeasure of encountering. I'm only glad I learned about them quickly, so I didn't waste any more of my time and skills on them. Rev is an online sweatshop that brags about low cost to potential customers as they exploit and mistreat poor people desperate enough to be forced to work for them due to lack of options or inability to commute. Thank goodness I have other, better options, but I also want to do all I can to warn people of the overall greedy and negative culture at Rev.com. They like to claim all disgruntled employers were either not very good at their job or merely angry about being fired, but I was an employee with excellent metrics who quit while my numbers still were outstanding, so they can't make that false claim about me.

The old 90 day probation scam, or 100 point become a revver trick.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Everything she says is the absolute truth. I've noticed a dirty trick that a lot of companies do is use employees until the end of the 90 day probation period and then find some cheesy excuse why they are letting them go. The real reason is the companies don't want to pay more. That's what Rev does. The closer I got to being a revver, the more idiotic the grader became. I know I'm good, no stupid company ran by crooks is going to tell me different. I'm just mad at myself for falling for their {{Redacted}}. If you want to work at this place consider it temporary. It will be. The Internet is a place that scammers feed and REV is ran by blood suckers.

Transcript has a lot of errors

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
My transcription had a lot of errors and I had to manually clean it up myself. My audio had very clear speech with no accents. They clearly didn't spend much time transcribing my audio and they weren't at all responsive to my requests. Never going back to them again. I wish I could get a refund. Complete waste of money. Don't make the same mistake that I did. The best service I found was a new service called AwesomeScribe (awesomescribe.com). It's really cheap ($.69/min), turnaround time was much quicker than advertised, and the UI is easy to use. I found a new transcription service of choice and I highly recommend it over rev.com.

Rev.com, Rev Captions, Rev Transcription, Rev SUCKS -- Rev is a Scam!!!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Rev is a SCAM. Not only are all of their 5 star reviews fake on their website (amazing how a new one shows up almost everyday!), but the 5 star reviews are also fake on Glassdoor (look at how most are within a day or two of each other, or within a day or two after someone posts a bad review -- *** all of the filters on Glassdoor by the way. Then you'll see ALL of the reviews, not just the fake 5 star 'Employee' reviews). I worked for Rev, so I can tell you first hand, THEY ARE FAKE. This company is run by a group of inexperienced, shady, immoral people. They pay way below what equates to minimum wage. They fire their captioners and transcriptionists without warning, (despite the fact that they explicitly tell them that they will warn them if they are in danger of losing their work relationship with the company) even if the contractor is doing perfect or near perfect work, achieving all of the high ratings that are required of them, and following all of their rules, guidelines, and regulations. This company is full of lies. They make up lies, blame the contractors, and then use those lies as an excuse to fire them. This has happened to MANY well-qualified contractors -- just look at their facebook page comments and various 'work from home' blogs in their comment sections. There are many stories of this happening to well-qualified, well-performing contractors. Some of these contractors were working regularly for Rev, so it became their main source of income. Then Rev would fire them, despite the fact that they reached all of the necessary grading requirements, suddenly, without explanation. Many of these workers are parents who believed that since they were doing a very good job (and told so numerous times via email), that they were safe in their contractor job with Rev. What kind of company does that? It's one thing to end a contractor relationship without warning. It's a whole other thing to make up a lie, blame it on the contractor, and then use that lie as an excuse to fire them. This company is a disgrace. They should not be in business. Whomever backed them up financially is a total and absolute fool. I'm excited to watch this company fail.

This company is a total scam. I transcribed audio for them that was in an Indian accent it took 4 hours for me to transcribe 30 minutes of work and they didn't pay me $70 for the work.

I used correct spelling, grammar, and everything and got a 1/1.

They probably turned it in to whoever wanted the transcription done and pocketed the cash themselves. Sleazy company.

I think the whole new thing is automated and only receive the same message to everyone who is perfect. dont waste your time to online questions and take away from this kind of false five star Rev.

Rev.com is an AWESOME company! They have outstanding customer service, fair pricing, and a great program to easily put video closed caption on your videos as well as much more!

I would highly recommend them to anyone!!!

Anyone complaining about them is most likely unreasonable or unfair! Keep up the great work Rev.com!

If you can't make minimum wage at 0.54 - 0.90 per minute, then you don't work fast enough. That is $32.40 - $54 per audio hour.

PROFESSIONAL transcriptionists with degrees and experience in brick and mortar offices make $45-50 per audio hour on average. You can't expect Rev to pay ABOVE industry standard for inexperienced, freelance workers who don't even need a diploma. It isn't their fault if you can't work fast enough to make it worth your time.

They even ask people who type slower than 70wpm not to apply. I'm not trying to be rude, but if you only make $1 per hour then you just aren't fast enough for this type of work.

Professional transcriptionists get $1/audio minute. Rev pays less than half that.

Stop making excuses for substandard unethically low pay.

It IS Rev's fault they aren't paying adequately. Wise up.

I type 120 wpm and often barely get US minimum wage on Rev. It's often not the typing part, but the fact that you have to stop frequently to repeat poor quality audio or do research on some files.

Guest

I have just had the same experience! Just today, after I completed my first 3 projects very well, I suddenly got this email informing me that MY account was being closed.

There was no explanation!

That so-called organization obviously blackmails average American citizens into play acting, telling people what a great thing it is, but then, the program crashes, and you're fired minutes later! *** Rev!

I wouldn't go so far as to call them a scam, but they definitely deliberately underpay their ICs. There is no way to make a decent living working for them.

They get rich off of your work, while you get crumbs. They keep shortening the deadlines and raising the standards while at the same time lowering the pay. You won't even make close to minimum wage working for this place. They seem to have no scruples whatsoever when it comes to how they treat their transcriptionists or captioners.

The audio quality is usually horrible. Much of the time the speakers are unintelligible, there's excessive background noise, people are talking over each other, they have heavy accents, etc. So it's a struggle to earn your pathetic pay. It would be bad enough if the audio quality was great and you were paid less than minimum wage, but it's not.

For the type of audio they have, the wages should be at least TRIPLE what they pay.

Also they recently decided to lower the pay across the board as well, all the while crowing about how great their business was doing. What kind of people do that with a clear conscience? If their business was so wonderful, they should have been increasing the pay to their ICs, not slashing it.

Bottom-line: If you're a prospective worker--avoid this place. Your time is more valuable than what they pay.

If you're a prospective customer: Think about who you're dealing with. Have a conscience and some ethics and go with a company that compensates its workers fairly and pays decent wages--at least minimum wage, which Rev does not.

So very true. This guy's just fired me while in the middle of a 1.5-day job.

***! All my metrics were above the highest level required.

Rev Work Experience Review

This company pays a very low amount based on the amount of work and deadlines they give you for each project. I am a fairly decent typer ~90wmp and I BARELY completed every job on time (with quality considerations). I'd be down to about 30 seconds when I hit submit most the time. Rev is a horrible company and should only be a job you take if your only other job options are "homeless"

Bogus Standards

I applied for a transcription position with this company, and had my work verified with another one of the top (nationally recognized) transcription companies in the area. The evaluation was "stellar" yet this company sent an automated message that stated I did not meet their "rigorous" standards. Unlikely. I would be very careful of wasting time with this company's extensive application--especially for a position that pays $10/hour. This company advertises on the major job search engines and is taking advantage of unsuspecting consumers. Seriously advise to spend your job search time elsewhere and if you are a potential client, there are many other better options for transcription services

$10 an hour? Rev pays its transcriptionists less than half that.

$3 or $4 an hour is more typical given the lousy audio quality on most of their work meaning more time is required to do them.

You're very fortunate they did not accept you. It's pretty amazing their requirements are so strict and standards are ridiculously high, but when it comes to compensation, it's third-world pay at a fraction of minimum wage and keeps falling with no bottom in sight.

As far as automated messages, they terminate your account with an automated message and your account can be unfairly terminated for a complete B.S.

reason.

This company has no sense of ethics or social responsibility in either how it pays its workers or how it treats them. Definitely not a place anyone with a conscience should do business with.

Rev Transcription Rev Captioning Rev.com

Stay away from these people! Rev.com is the worst transcription company on the market. They are a total waste of time. Rev is one of the worst companies I have ever had to deal with. This company is run by a bunch of amateurs who are just out to take your money without keeping its promises. This company is a total sham. Take your business elsewhere. What kind of company outsources its five star reviews? A pathetic one. Every transcriptionist should be warned about this company, and every person who uses transcription services should stay far, far away from Rev.com.
